You read it RIGHT! 28 dogs rescued in 1 day . . . On Sunday, November 16th, we received a call asking for our help. A small, but mighty team of volunteers (Maria L, Stephanie C, and Ramona - and family) were on site within hours. https://www.zeffy.com/en-US/donation-form/28-dogs-in-1-dayAt the end of the day, we brought in 28 beautiful young dachshunds ranging in ages between 1.5 WEEKS to 6 years ALL have Bright Futures Ahead They are ALL in safe and loving foster homes and our team is in the process of shipping out microchips, heartworm meds, tags and more. MOST of the dogs will need to be spayed or neutered They will all receive important vaccines and a full exam by one of our vets. Why do we need a Rescue Revolution!
Well, let's start with the fact that 334,000 dogs were euthanized in US shelters, not because of aggression or illness, but due to a lack of space and resources. In 2024, five states accounted for over half of all dogs euthanized in shelters: Texas, California, North Carolina, Florida, and Alabama. While millions of shelter animals were saved, euthanasia remains a concern, particularly in these states. We are still at a rate that 49% of dogs surrendered in 2024 were either euthanized or died in the care of the shelter or rescue.
Adopting a dog from a shelter or rescue is the fastest way to reduce these staggering numbers. We also need to spay or neuter the dogs we rescue, to help slow down the birth rate.
